Nicer comments greeting

Ok, here is the first incremental improvement to this weblog.

I changed the comment form: now after your first comment on this website, you’ll only see the comment body text area and a nice greeting message instead of the three input fields. An active link is provided to delete the delicious cookies that hold your precious data.

Everything is handled client side by a Javascript, wich checks for the presence of the txp_name cookie, shows only the relevant part of the form and updates the text, providing a nicer display for returning customers.

You can try it on this entry, remember that you’ll see it working after the first comment. If you’ve entered comments in the past, you’ll have the cookie, so it will work just fine.

Sounds good. But does it work?

Ok, nice try….let me see if it works…

There’s a little “bug” (it really isn’t a bug…perhaps a not-so-nice feature): if you don’t put a valid e-mail address you have to choose “non sono io” to re-enter it (because the cookies works also with a non-valid e-mail I think…).
